Snow!

Local newspeople are so happy. They have something to talk about with great import without reminding you that your investments are in the tank. They have smiles on their faces. I have a smile on my face. You would think that the amount of flack the Pacific Northwest gets about the weather, it would actually live up to its hype. Today it did, for at least 20 minutes this morning when huge globs of snow came falling down.

I guess living in Illinois (Blagojevich!) and NYC for so long has tempered me. I love, love, love the first snow. I mean, look at my face: I'm almost smiling. The smug expression has melted ever so slightly revealing a child-like awe and wonder at the flimsy white powder on the ground.
I love it. I'm also thankful there are no imminent snowdrifts issues, or that windchill factors are above the freezing point. I still remember Chicago last year and the needle sharp pain of midwest cold. It's charming when you look at it from a morbid, masochistic perspective.

UPDATE:

This evening we got another snowfall. It's gorgeous outside. And it looks like it's going to stick around for awhile. Salem will be below freezing for the next few days.
