Antelope Island is the biggest island located in the Great Salt Lake. Debbie and I took a drive there after I researched Salt Lake City's obsessive attitude towards lasers (see previous post). It was a beautiful drive, and the island itself looked like a whole different world. If Battlestar Galactica needed another location shot they could have come here. Here's a smattering of what we saw:

It was an odd place. It was simultaneously epic, but very serene. The flatness of it all gave it a contemplative feel.

As you travel along the roads you get to see these lovely guys. They roam freely on the land, and while I relied heavily on my digital zoom feature of my camera, other photographers were a bit more cavalier in getting their close-ups. Tatonka!

On the east side of the island is Fielding Garr Ranch. This ranch is the oldest building in Utah that is on its original site. Debbie and I both had flashbacks to the days of being on our respective grandparent's farms growing up. Here is some of what we saw walking through the ranch:

This was located in one of the "museums". Just a bunch of farm junk, but it made me think of my grandfather's machine shop back in Aumsville, Oregon. I would rummage through stuff like this and make-believe my ass off, if I wasn't putting fertilizer in gas tanks. Yeah. I was a twit.

Workbench.

A rooster with furry feet.

Here's the ranch house kitchen. Well-preserved, it was amazing to walk through. And despite the fact it was a fairly warm day, I couldn't help but notice that this house was freaking cold. I'm sure it was designed that way to help with the summer heat, but I was still surprised how chilly it was inside.

It ain't no Aga, but it's close.

The washing machine. As Debbie pointed out, I bet when they got this they were absolutely thrilled to get something like this.

Had to put this last shot in the mix. It's Debbie kindly standing in a sheep shearing pen. That half smile on her face is her indicating to me that she is about to punch me in the stomach for making her stand in there.
love the pics! and i sort of want that washing machine.
