The party is almost over...

We close Taming of the Shrew today. It's time to lay this beast to rest, never to rise again. This show has created more stir than any other show this summer in ways that were incredibly frustrating. It was a strange experience: I thought its concept heavy direction lacked heart and showed how directors today try to "fix" Shakespeare into something that is understandable. That's a huge misnomer as I (and I'm sure many of you) have seen Shakespeare unadapted, perfectly clear, and profoundly moving.

But have to tell you, this show was fun to act. The cast and crew were some of the most easy going and professional people. I loved being on stage with my peers, making mountains out of molehills, justifying some strange-ass pieces of direction, and just looking at my scene partners enjoying their company.

It's a bittersweet end, and end it must. I've learned a lot from this experience that hopefully will remind me when I'm in the midst of rehearsals next month, to just trust this playwright who has survived for 400 years. It works on its own pretty damn well.

Michael: I'm sad I missed seeing you in this go around. Thankfully your Dad is able to be there for you though. Always another season..and you can be sure I'll be there at some point. Love you, and I'll see you Sunday. Mom
