Into the Run.

The runs here at Pioneer are lightning fast: two weeks long. This has been an adjustment since my previous contracts are usually an eleven week minimum. Just as we are getting into the swing of things, we will be closing.

The more I think about it, it's probably best. I've said all along that my days playing the swordsmen in shows are almost over. I've been battling with a freshly injured knee during rehearsal. Tiger Balm and Terminator-esque knee braces have been a part of my daily routine for weeks now. Last night I jammed the living bejesus out of my finger during the Mercutio fight. The last time I did something like this was when I was playing basketball in high school. And while the injury is familiar, my body is not as quick to heal, and the thought of dealing with these injuries for one more week brings a great sigh of relief.

Granted, I'm a big weenie. But most of the people who have taught me the stage combats arts either have very little cartilage to speak of, a pronounced limp, or recovering from a psychotic break. I'm taking the hint now so I can enjoy my 50s in relative pain-free grumpiness.

as opposed to the painful lack of grumpiness of your 30s?
